Review of Alien³ (1992) by Zapv — 04 Jan 2018
One more time the Alien franchise veers into completely new direction. In contrast with horror and action predecessors, Alien 3 is a philosophical drama focused on evil inherent in every human, in some dormant, in others possessive and its conflict with our good side.
The movie seems to be build around this juxtaposition: from interpenetration of monastery and prison, to contrast of benign creation (Bishop) with evil designer. The conclusion Fincher shows us is very dark: like shaving your head upon infection with lice, Ripley can defeat evil growing inside her only by self-sacrifice.
Despite conflicts between David Fincher and the studio, this movie is a great addition to diverse and bright Aliens franchise.
