Review of Alien Resurrection (1997) by Ronnie L — 24 Apr 2012
This film in ways is more like a parody of the series than a "final" installment, but the story (written by Joss Whedon) I think was portrayed wrong, it was supposed to be a little campy, but it's played straight, and comes off as ridiculous.
This is sad because story wise it is probably the strongest of the series in terms of drastically expanding the mythos and establishes a strong background on some of the characters, but because of probably cut scenes, this is lost.
Watched as an Alien film is has a unique look and feel all of it's own. But when put into perspective with the series, it is enjoyable. Even though I feel the script was wrongly interrupted, the actors do a good job (Ron Perlman actually for the most part got the script.
And in turn gives the strongest performance of the film, Dominique Pinon is also of note, even though with his accent a little hard to understand). Watch this with the rest of the series, if you watch it alone and without the rest of the series, it comes off as farcical.
