Review of Alien Resurrection (1997) by Jason R — 21 May 2011
Fixes some of the problems of Alien3 but creates its whole new set of problems. The makes of the series must have realized Alien3 was too long and that people wanted more aliens. The problem with Alien: Resurrection (besides ruining Ripley by making her part alien) is that it is too short and random.
The action gets going a lot faster than in Alien3 and it doesn't stop until the end. The actors seem kind of uncomfortable with the script and the one-liner style of dialgue doesn't usually work here.
The script by Josh Weldon sets up the crew of the Betty as kind of a precursor to Firefly so fans of his work might enjoy it, but the characters are underdeveloped due to the time. Not one of Jean-Pierre Jeunet's best works and the alien/human hybrid was just a bad idea.
