Review of Alien Resurrection (1997) by John L — 27 May 2012

Is this movie good? It depends on your definition of good. There are so many plot holes that no matter which way you step you are going to fall through. Some of the countless issues with the story are only explainable with an answer so far-fetched it's pretty unbelievable. Most of the problems with the story are, however, completely unexplainable. They just flat out do not make any sense at all. Really one could watch this movie without watching any of the previous ones and it would make almost no difference because there is no logic to it anyway. So in the normal sense of the word, no this movie is not good. Not by a long shot.

For all its numerous failures, however, it WAS pretty entertaining. I laughed quite a bit, often at the movie's expense, but it was laughter nonetheless. It was a fun joke of a movie. A joke is a great parallel actually. If you try to take this film seriously then you will be seriously disappointed. Just enjoy it.
