Review of Alien Resurrection (1997) by Jailhouse M — 03 Aug 2012

Jean-Pierre Jeunet can take a bronze medal in order of how Alien films rank however, while it's marginally better than Alien3, it's still a tired entry into a deflating sci-fi series.

With Aliens a gold, Alien a silver, Alien Ressurection narrowly slots into third best of the four over the third film but this gives little persuasion as to why it's film franchise should continue beyond this. Tired ideas, cliched plot lines and dull settings mean Alien Ressurection plays out like Alien3 - a decent B-Movie flick.

In case you are wondering how Sigourney Weaver is able to star in this fourth installment having committed suicide in the third, she was cloned by crew members 200 years after she perished.

So, a clone of the legendary Ellen Ripley (Weaver) is selected as part of a space shuttle's crew which are containing the Alien race her real-self once faced and using them for beneficial science. However, there are catastrophic circumstances which vastly occur through Ripley's DNA being unintentionally bonded with that of the Alien Queen and the fact that the Alien Xeno-Morphs (new name for the Aliens) have escaped their cells.

Thankfully for Alien Resurrection, there are some well choreographed sequences it entails with some excellent CGI effects to represent the Alien Queen and Alien Xeno-Morphs. This contributed to some outstanding scenes which are exhilarating and exciting.

Sadly, for the most part though, Alien Ressurection is a tired shadow of the first two Alien spectacles. It lacks originality, character personality, and most of all, Sigourney Weaver's performances have lost their effect they once had.

On this note, I conclude by stating the obvious: After the Alien3 disappointment, the series shouldn't have been resurrected I'm afraid.
