Review of Alien Raiders (2008) by Aaron S — 19 Aug 2009
I always avoided this movie when I passed by it on my OnDemand (mainly because of the generic-as-all-hell title), but then the good buzz started to bubble up. Great little flick that does something that most horror movies these days don't: it assumes that the audience knows horror movie traits and conventions, so it doesn't feel the need for a lot of exposition and time-wasting re-stating. Hell, the movie's first 45 minutes are like a puzzle that the viewer has to *gasp* PAY ATTENTION to understand.
It reminded me a lot of The Thing in that it was an ensemble piece in a closed enviroment where you never know who's going to turn next. It wasn't groundbreaking or a masterpiece, but it was easily several rungs higher than most horror/sci-fi movies of recent (and certainly better than any DTV flick has a right to be).
Edit: reposting this review in the hopes that somebody else will see and fall in love with this flick, like I have. IT'S GREAT, PEOPLE!
