Even the higher starred reviews sound like they're trying to console would be viewers of this near parody of the genre. If something doesn't reek like a total fail, is that any reason to grudgingly give it your blessing? Like, "Well the Titanic had many miles of decent sailing BEFORE the iceberg, and it WAS an impressive ship, so I give it's maiden voyage 3 and a half stars!".
Let's be honest people. There's no science in this sci-fi, it even fails as an effective horror. Just because it looks expensive is no reason to go throw more money at it. Oh wait, that's the American way, what am I saying?
Do whatever you like then, but it's a really stupid movie. Somebody call James Cameron for a sequel already.
