Review of Alien: Covenant (2017) by Tony K — 08 Jan 2018
Once again Ridley Scott proves he can create a universe...but just leave the story telling to someone else. Scott's iconic establishing shots are always so beautifully crafted. The world buildings is second to none, but when it comes to telling a cohesive and captivating story he often lacks the finer touches to entice his audiences into following along.
This is why Aliens by Cameron and Blade Runner 2049 by Villeneuve are in my opinion for superior to the movies that came before them. Alien Covenant is a bloated movie that often deals more with philosophical ideas rather then what made the earlier entries so great.
Long forgotten are the idea of iconic characters like Ripley or the Aliens themselves. Instead we are treated to a pretty movie that is dragged along by bland uninteresting characters.
