Review of Alien: Covenant (2017) by Brandon S — 19 Mar 2018
First off, though it has taken me a year to get around to this (despite an unearthly strong desire to see it in the theater last year), I still went into this movie totally blind, despite being a huge fan of the series.
Second, as the story unfolded, though I did shortly realize that the movie was, in fact, an in-between, did not surprise me nor did any of its woefully predictable story, unfortunately as much as certainly plot points, having been thoroughly aped or otherwise horribly clichéd, in other franchises or even in this one, officially (film or novel).
I know, for certain, it can be said that it's hard to come up with anything refreshing or truly new, and that we, as fans, expect a certain amount of expectation, and on that Covenant certainly succeeds, but there's a bit too much repetition for me, even up to the very end.
Still, it's never boring to watch an Alien movie, and even with the first round out of the way, you can still bet I'll be watching it again, particularly over other entries (Alien 3, AVP:R, etc).
I know I'm setting the bar pretty high, but for crying out loud... it's an Alien movie! Blame Ridley Scott, not me....
