Review of Alien: Covenant (2017) by John Ross D — 22 May 2017
WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!!! NOT THAT ITS A BIG DEAL HONESTLY, BUT YOU'VE BEEN FAIRLY WARNED!!
There wasn't a lot of storyline to keep me focused and left a lot of holes, just a lot of CGI fighting. The white xneomorphs, I was disappointed in. I would have liked to have seen more of them and better focus on them, like if they had been in a suit, they were neat but could have been better and basically at the end it was like a Ripley rip off. I mean come on you have a girl same short hair cut fighting the alien on top of the ship and trapping him in a crane claw, it was like watching a bad version of Ripley that they scratched to go with the better take of her in the mechanical suit to fight the alien queen in Aliens 2. Just not what I expected from Ridley Scott, I know he had to complete the line of Prometheus, but I was expecting them to crash land on the home planet of Alien, not that David was creating them. Kind of disappointed in him. It started out with promise then kinda just tripped, and dragged it's feet. Reminded me of those dumb girls in horror movies that can't run. I knew who was gonna die and how so it was way to predictable. I mean when I see an Alien movie, I wanna jump out of my skin again like when I was 10 and watching with the originals from Cameron. I jumped twice in the beginning so I was like sweet we have some promise here, but then it just kinda dragged and was predictable. I know these are prequels, which are great to fill in holes, but they are leaving more holes then they are filling in! It's getting confusing and I really just wanna see one of them finally be full on alien attacks in the space ship, in space with dark shadows and corridors, creepy music, snarling and alien drool from the ceiling and noises so creepy your ready to jump at AIR spitting smoke from a vent around the next turn. I mean Scott could use what he's got and tie them into Ripley's first movies and have her guest star or something to show you were at her timeline before she goes into space the. cut to credits and bam your at her story lines, with Ripley's adventures following. He has the perfect set up to take crazy David on convent with 2000 souls on board to show us how alien came to be now, he could tie that up in a movie or two, then if you want to keep going you have your REAL xneomorphs killing people, then bam were at Ripley's timeline. I'm sorry... But you just can't top her and trying with the space ship fight it was good but kinda pissed me off cause it was like a slap at Ripley. I just grew up with these movies and I like the feel of being scared like what's around the corner and now crawling up on my bf when something jumps out and him laughing at me. but you have to build the suspense... not just show them popping out with no suspense, its like oh look aliens gonna kill idiot number two now. I mean I'm more terrified playing the Alien video game for PS4 then watching the movies now. Also I'm not a big fan of McBride really, at all but at least he did good at bringing back some of the original Alien feeling. Even when at the end it was like watching a bad version of Alien 2. So props to him he ALONE was the saving grace of the movie... Never thought I'd say those Words and side note someone deactivate David already he's pissing me off little psychotic AI!
