Review of Alien: Covenant (2017) by Whiskeystories — 29 May 2017
An immensely fun B-movie. While it's a pretty cheap and lazy attempt at an Alien sequel with paperthin characters, laughable and sometimes annoying character choices and not so great effects, I enjoyed it more than Prometheus, because it wasn't really trying to be more than it was.
Prometheus is still a superior movie, but Alien: Covenant is more entertaining in my opinion. It's like the schlocky horror films of the 80s, like the Friday the 13th movies, which I honestly really love, in a guilty pleasure kind of way.
All the stuff with Fassbender was pretty great, the characters he plays were the best part of the film on a critical level. Though I would have liked it to be more of a Prometheus sequel rather than an Alien prequel ("remake"), it's still a really enjoyable film, if you don't take it seriously.
Honestly I wish Ridley Scott would stop making these Alien films, but I have to admit I am kind of looking forward to the next film.
