Review of Alien: Covenant (2017) by Degenerate J — 20 May 2017

When it comes to the Alien franchise, many fans want to see different things. Some want to be scared like they were in Scott's original Alien picture. Others want the high speed action of Cameron's Aliens to return.

However, some still, like me, just want to see the world and lore of the franchise expanded upon, because we love that world and the fantastic unknowns that abound within it. Why do I bring all of these expectations up? You will either love or hate Alien Covenant depending on why you go to see it.

If you want to be scared, chances are you won't be. If you want a thrilling action movie like Aliens, you will likely also be disappointed. However, if you want an intelligent science fiction movie full of religious iconography, and a penchant for asking questions about the meaning of life, you will certainly enjoy the film.

Likewise, if you enter this movie wanting to see an expansion of the Alien universe, which is willing to dive deeper into some of the lore and events, this is a movie you will have a fun time with. Is it Alien 1 or 2? No, this is its own beast.

Scott's intelligent writing and the excellent casting of Michael Fassbender as both David and Walter made this movie incredibly entertaining for me and I'm excited to see what comes next.
