Review of Alien: Covenant (2017) by Jake H — 26 May 2017
Watched it for the second time today. It was better than the first time, I was sitting further back and could really take in the whole picture and just like the first time I didn't touch my popcorn, the immersion was real! I like it a lot, very well made with the music, special effects and editing being pretty spot on. It is more of an action thriller than horror but that's totally ok. It doesn't answer a lot of questions, mostly raising new ones letting me fill in the gaps and therefor remains mysterious.
Fassbender is awesome. The ending is a little too dark for my taste though, but that's part of this franchise. Definetly getting it on Bluray, watching Prometheus and this back to back should be pretty sweet.
Ridley Scott really expanded upon the alien universe and gave it all a deeper meaning, that's for sure. I like it, feels fresh but in the end it becomes the same "kill or get killed, blow it out the airlock" type of alien movie.
Now, a lot of people are complaining about the origin of the xeno that is supposedly revealed in this movie and I just want to say that if you look at the xeno that appears in this film, it is totally different than the classic xeno in all it's life stages. So no, the origin of the original xeno has not been revealed yet.
