Review of Alice in Wonderland (1951) by Thrall T — 24 Oct 2016
Fall down the rabbit hole, and follow Alice on her crazy whimsical adventure. Alice in Wonderland, starring Kathryn Beaumont, Ed Wynn, Sterling Holloway, and Richard Haydn, is a classic work of Walt Disney's fit for the whole family.
Alice is a curious young girl that is bored with the real world, filled with history lessons and animals that don't talk. She follows a white rabbit in a waistcoat that insists he is "late for a very important date!", then falls through a rabbit hole into an outlandish world filled with talking objects, and royalty that is missing more than a few buttons.
Alice meets many strange characters, both good and bad, whilst on her journey back home. This movie has voice actors that perfectly suit their roles. The color and quality of animation is fantastic, and the score is full of excellent original songs that wonderfully set the mood for each scene.
However, the story feels rushed and choppy in some places, and a bit slow in others. It's also a shorter film because of it's age, and I wish the plot was a bit more detailed. Overall, I would give this movie four out of five stars.
Curiosity may not be everyone's cup of tea, but this family friendly film is full of wonder and unexpected turns.
