Review of Alice in Wonderland (1951) by Nathan R — 11 Aug 2016
Another classic from Disney's hay day, Alice embraces its nonsensical source material and brings a zany and colorful world to life with exciting characters and a silly script. It's somewhere between a full-fledged film and the package films of the 40's, with a loosely connected plot that consists of Alice encountering different strange creatures in Wonderland.
The animators did a fine job bringing together not one but two books by Carroll and chose great selections with memorable characters like the Mad Hatter and the caterpillar. Some parts of the movie however aren't quite as clever as they try to be, especially the parts that take away from Alice, like the singing flowers and the Walrus and the Carpenter bit; it's less enjoyable than it is tedious trying to keep track of the plot.
The animation is well done and perhaps the great design and style of the characters is what elevates this film.
