Review of Ali (2012) by Kayleigh P — 29 May 2009
An epic film, focusing on the worlds greatest boxer in history. Smith is worth of his Oscar nomination for his performance as the one, the only, Muhammad Ali. The supporting cast are great, especially Wright and Voight.
The film does focus alot on the politics and injustice that Ali went through, and this, in my opinion, is what makes the film stand out. Everyone knows Ali, his fights and how he got to the title, but does anyone really know the man, what he WENT through to get his title, and everything he believes in? As the tag line says, 'Forget what you think you know!' and that's exactly right.
This film is long, and a bit slow in the pace, but stick with it and you won't be disappointed. A stunning turn by Smith, making this film great to watch. The fights, well filmed and a joy to watch, as is the rest of the film.
