Review of Ali (2001) by Matt C — 04 Dec 2008
It's not a surprise that Michael Mann took this bio-pic and made it far too long. That was a given, what is a surprise is how uninformative it is too. Nothing on the man's childhood, little on his religious beliefs, his personal life, his boxing career, little on Joe Frazier, oh and did I mention it's too long? This movie quite frankly does a disservice to Muhammad Ali, a man who if I didn't know better according to this movie was just a black muslim that packed a good punch as well as came up with a humourous rhyme from time to time.
The performances are very good but the movie doesn't deserve them.
