Review of Alexander (2004) by Declan B — 16 Mar 2013
(The Final Cut) Lavishly produced, with grand battles, enormous sets and a powerful yet haunting score by Vangelis that recalls the days of Jarre and Rozsa, Stone's take on the legendary general is not the cinematic turd it's so often dubbed, though its occasionally turns to soap-ish melodrama, overwritten dialogue and cartoonish performance by Jolie, who sounds like a shoe-in for Dracula's daughter complete with sinister smirk, comes dangerously close.
