Review of Alexander (2004) by Peter P — 15 Oct 2010

This movie seems like it should be an epic, or that it wants to an epic, but for some reason it just comes off as a wannabe. Maybe that is cause Colin Farrell is cast in the lead. Farrell is a fine actor and I have liked many of his other movies, but he just seems out of his depth in the role of Alexander, Angelina Jolie also just did not seem to fit her role all that well either.

Other then that it had pacing issues, some fairly boring battle scenes and some very undefined romantic relationship with same gender roles that just came off as trying to be more clever then it had to be.

Are they saying Alexander was gay, bi, or whatever, well just come out and say it, flirting around the issue got really old really fast. All in all Alexander came off as trying to be a lot of things, yet not doing any of them particularly well, then throw in a 3 hour running time and I can totally see why it was a bust when it was released.
