Three things movies have taught me. 1. Nothing good happens to characters who keep their life savings hidden under a floorboard. 2. When men pretend to be women it is usually funny, but when women pretend to be men it is usually sad.
3. The Academy loves it when a big named actor or actress go on a gender-bender. Now I can add a new one; the Irish seem to be very gullible when it comes to identifying women in men's clothing. Close does a good job, but still.
If I saw her on the street, I would think to myself, "Gee, that woman kind of looks like Conan O'Brian. Why is she dressed like a man?" Indeed, the naïveté of the other characters is exceeded only by the naiveté of the main one.
It is a movie I am still thinking about though, and that is something.
