Review of Albert Nobbs (2011) by Lindsay M — 04 Mar 2012
I'm going against the grain, perhaps, in stating that Albert Nobb is an exceptional film. One must go in expecting fantastic acting, an engaging human-interest story, and a tidy (if sad) ending.
Close is outstanding in the role of Nobbs, an awkward woman reluctantly living as a man, who has learned to play her cards very close to her chest. One never gets to the core of the character of Nobbs, but that is part of the story. He/she is an enigma to all of the other characters, as well.
Go with an open heart and m ind and you won't be disappointed.
