Review of Albert Nobbs (2011) by Ian D — 02 Jun 2012
Albert Nobbs is reserved, heartbroken, and constantly fearful of who "he" is and what his future holds. Glenn Close does a great job being a man. And in one scene, she actually tries to be a woman because she is a woman, and she is so unconvincing as a woman that you just want to see her in her suit and hat again.
The film does move slowly at times, and I found myself wondering a couple of times..."What are we (as the audience) suppose to gain from this experience?" Because if anything this isn't just an entertaining film.
We, as the audience, are suppose to pull something from it. I know it! Besides empathy, I am still not too sure what that something is.
