Review of Albert Nobbs (2011) by Juli R — 26 Apr 2014
This is a captivating film if you like period dramas and enjoy thinking about life "below stairs". It is set in a hotel in 19th century Ireland. Glenn Close's character is a woman who has been living as a man for thirty years.
It is a brave performance. You get the sense that this character believes love is only a business transaction, and she doesn't really understand what goes on between men and women. However, she is also lonely.
I was not entirely convinced that this character hated playing the part of a man. This is a strange, sad movie.
