Review of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009) by Aniket B — 30 Dec 2009
A madcap comic caper from Rajkumar Santoshi (but sadly falls short of being another Andaz Apna Apna). It is funny throughout except for a few emotional parts (where the script lags). Ranbir is a perfect fit in the role of an emotionally deficient dysfunctional 25-year old(Yeah, wake up sid all over again).
Kaif is perfect in the role of an Anglo orphan. There are two exceptional songs, one sung by Neeraj Sridhar and another By Atif Aslam. The locations are beautiful (an idyllic town, somewhere. The flick had me wondering whether I need to go on vacation there.
) The only gripes (and minor ones) - Upen Patel's role appears totally contrived (and unbelievable) - How did the guy transform from a guy willing to give up everything for love to a guy who's willing to sacrifice his lady to get his father elected, is beyond comprehension.
For a girl who is headstrong, why doesn't Katrina just leave the illtreating foster-family. This immature role is getting stale and Ranbir definitely needs to spruce his acting chops with other roles.
At some point, this joke(role) is going to drag. But all-in-all a hlarious madcap flick, which you will enjoy (Caveat - provided you leave your brains at home for the duration).
