Review of Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer (2003) by Annelies S — 08 Apr 2008
The real and illuminating story behind "Monster".
How cynical the Monster production seems from the point of view of this documentary... helped as it was by corrup cops and "friends" of Aileen. But then again... Broomfield himself explots Aileen not once but twice for documentaries.
Most people in Aileen's life used and abused her... she was spit at... raped... beaten by "friends", family and strangers. Her life was nothing but hardship and pain. Jeb Bush used her to get re-elected... contriving to carry out her execution a few weeks ahead of his election.
This film leaves many questions left unanswered. And perhaps that is right. Her road to madness is widely speculated upon... her myriad childhood abuses at the hands of all manner of male relatives... her breached birth... the truly shocking community abandonment which found her teen years spend literally sleeping in the snow in a forrest at the end of a middle class road. Her story is one of pure evil... which includes her own.
Broomfield once more plays an active participant in his own movie and his crew even film his testimony in a Aileen Wuornous appeal. I like the guy so its not a problem.
