Review of A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) by Spyros T — 14 May 2012
Ai is that kind of film that, I saw once, I kind of liked it and I have no interest in seeing again. The problem with Spielberg and Ai (and many of his films), is that he's willing to make this incredibly dark films that question the morals and ideas behind identity, being human, and justice and they're really enjoyable for that.
But when it comes to the ending, Spielberg's pusses out and opts for the ending he sticks to most of his films, which is't suitable for these dark films he's trying to make. Teddy is the most underappreciated robot character in the history of cinema and the constant Pinocchio parallel is nicely handled but overall the script stumble's many times.
Spielberg is no Kubrick, I don't know why he bothered.
