Review of A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) by Robert A — 03 Feb 2015
This is the first review I have ever written and given the age of the film, I highly doubt anyone will read it BUT I feel compelled to express just how much this film has touched me and how it made me feel. i'm a 23 year old male and I have never cried from watching a film before and even though it is set in the future with technology which is far beyond what we can currently comprehend (a robot that can really love) it raises many questions regarding key issues surrounding morality. As we know, one day, the human race will have the ability to achieve a robot which will look like a human, but how will the human race react to such technological advancements and how will they be introduced to us?
This film is fascinating and I found it very emotional yet also quite disturbing. I would 100% recommend this film to everyone because the characters are very easy to relate to. The real question is, at what point would we have a moral responsibility to a machine? I wouldnt think twice before upgrading my phone, but what makes David different to any other mechanic device? is it the fact he can talk? my iphone can do that. Or is it that he looks like us and can portray affection towards humans? so the difference between him and any other mechanical device is purely based upon his aesthetics? and if we applied the same theory to the human race, would that not be interpreted by some as a form of discrimination? I would love to be able to see how governments might try to legislate this future certainty.
