Review of Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by Steve L — 24 Jun 2008
Herzog has certainly established himself as the heir to Conrad, and indeed may well have eclipsed him in elucidaiting the darker corners of the human soul. As we watch the characters reconcile themselves to their fates, we witness some of the most haunting psychological portaits on film.
The utter meaninglessness of the journey and the compressed timeline made this into somewhat of an absurdist epic.
