Review of Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by Kevin M — 18 Jul 2009
Herzog's funniest movie by far. A grand Theater of the Absurd, using Pizarro's search for El Dorado as a factual springboard into hallucinatory madness. Klaus Kinski is a force of nature, even more deadly than the actual Amazon backdrops or the disasters that continue to befall his doomed party.
The making of "Aguirre" was even more harrowing than the actual film turned out to be. Essential viewing.
