Review of Agora (2009) by Adrian Z — 24 Sep 2010
4 - Vivid exploration of the early days of Christianity in Alexandria, and how it leads to the downfall of Hypatia (Rachel Weisz), a telented female astronomer who became the target of a manipulative Christian leader.
The attention to historical detail and the absorbing drama make this one a movie to recommend. Views of Earth from space, some kind of Google Earth Ancient History Edition, is indicative of Hypatia's quest to find our place in the universe, and puts the brutal religious skirmishes into perspective.
