(1984) Against All Odds.
ROMANTIC THRILLER.
Rewritten and redone from the original film noir film "Out of the Past"! Somewhat of a loopy storyline about ex-football player Beau Bridges looking for other means of cash after getting himself cut from the team, and decides to accept a job from a sleazy football gambler James Woods to find girlfriend (Rachel Ward) hiding out in some other foreign country! While there, the Beau Bridges character falls in love with her and that is when the story really gets interesting with it's twists and revealations! Great acting all.
Not a 'film noir' even though the idea came from one if one were to look at the credits. And the acting is solid by Beau Bridges, James Woods and Richard Widmark with it's flashy cars and appealing direction by Taylor Hackford but the overall film is all style without much substance!
Also, there's something to be said when the music video "Against All Odds (Take a look at me now)" with Phil Collins made more sense and is more effective than it would be to see this!
2.5 out of 4.
