Tomato Rating - 3.

Reductive rating (I start at 10/10 then work my way down. The film was this terrible).

Aftershock movie rating: 6.

WARNING... SPOILERS!!!!!

To put my opinion simply: Thrilling as the movie was, there were far too many cliches. Killing off every single protagonist was annoying to watch.

After realizing they were going to kill literally everybody except for, maybe, nobody or one person, I stopped taking the film seriously. How could I tell? The way they killed the characters was too simple to catch my attention, and every single character was "robbed" of their life, not really caught in the drift of a well written action thriller's tragic plot-line.

In all honest opinion, The only interesting murder was Gringo. Not because of his character background, but because his dying was the only killing off in the entire movie which actually had somewhat of a clever execution. Well, maybe not even "clever", but written to actually seem like a movie plot-line instead of just another mindless splatterfilm made for teenagers.

The rest were like, this sort of circumstance where you just have to say to yourself, "Really? I highly doubt chance would have picked off every single person in a group of such a large size. Especially by cohesively choosing to literally take their life as soon as they were about to be saved. Every single time, too.".

If not for the slightly interesting plot twists and invasive realism of the initial situation which was an earthquake in a 3rd world country, and even a borderline Armageddon type feeling, I would have docked two points down to 4/10.

The first 4 points were docked for the following reasons:

- Cliche plotline,.

- Way overextended intro.

Party scenes for half an hour? Really?

- Cheesy catastrophic events.

This borders beyond cliche... I mean, taking a guy's hand off in the first scene of the earthquake, and then immediately killing the girl he was rescuing? Come ON, dude. Just throw this entire film into the "shock factor thriller" bucket and stop watching once you actually accept how cheesy and cliche the film is).

- Poorly executed jumpscares.

You'll have to see the dead babies at the end to understand. Oh, and don't forget the same exact looters, the ones who have been chasing your protagonists around for 30 minutes with "rape and kill" in their eyes, turning the corner, after a brave heroic justice murder of a rapist, and then sporadically shooting the girl who had just been rescued. WOW. Really? Talk about lazy writing.

Overall, the idea of following a rich Chilean guy with his rich white "Gringo" (talk about rude) American yuppy friend, their other hispanic friend who really stopped mattering after he lost his hand, and some hot foreign girls from varying countries and locations (literally added for sexual appeal, about 85% of their reason for presence in this film), through the aftermath of what was already a fatal earthquake, the plot twist of which is the prisoners escaping a facility, then running from a tsunami which doesn't even show until the end of the movie just for yet another shitty shock effect (almost like lazy millionaire slapstick comedy, "I'm getting paid either way" type shit)...

...Well, the idea is fun. But, the film was pretty bad. Not terrible, but I wouldn't watch this one again if there was another B- rate movie on Netflix I could watch if I were bored enough yet awake enough to power through a shitty movie with a ridiculously meaningless plotline. I mean, everyone died anyways.

6/10.
