Review of After the Wedding (2006) by Rob L — 03 Apr 2010
An utterly remarkable story that could have become an everday soap opera, thanks to a dogme style (heralded by Lars Von Trier) makes this hard to watch but at the same time impossible to turn away.
A story that takes place from Mumbai to Denmark, past lives, the present and the future is made possible by an all to real feeling of reality and performances that are in a word 'flawless'.
But the star of the show is director Susanne Bier who's handheld camera style gives it the feeling of a documentary while never losing it's sheer strength.
Danish cinema at its absolute best, and along other modern masterpieces by Bier (Brothers, remade recently in the US with Natalie Portman) and Open Hearts.
