Review of After the Wedding (2006) by Radhika N — 01 Aug 2008
An amazing film. I resisted this movie thinking that the synopsis seemed to close to Festen. But Susanne Bier explores family and relations and the tensions that bind them beautifully without ever making one feel like they are watching old hat. The movie begins in India with an orphanage being run by a Danish guy. This guy is summoned to Denmark in order to convince a funder to support the orphanage.
The funder is a rich man who invites him to his daughter's wedding. And then Mads (the Dane in India) realizes that this girl is really his daughter whose existence he was unaware of.
