Review of After Hours (1985) by Lyndon G — 27 Dec 2009
Scorsese's "Lynch" film is actually one of his most interesting. I'd argue these characters are some of the most interesting he's ever brought to screen. I'm a big fan of real-time films (see: Dazed and Confused, Knife in the Water, etc.) where it takes place all in one day or one night. This flick just draws you in and doesn't let go.
A truly funny and enthralling portrait of the over-worked, under-sexed urban dweller. I wish Scorsese would do more small budget flicks like these. There's something mysterious and enjoyable about "After Hours". A shout out to Griffin Dunne who really carries the film like he carries that sculpture on his back.
Highly recommended if you aren't afraid of some surrealist touches and mohawks.
