Alice in Wonderland on Acid.

All Paul Hackett (Griffin Dunne) wanted was to have a simple cup of coffee.. Who would have ever imagined that would lead to one of the most insane, torturous, twisted nights anyone could ever imagine.

After meeting Marcy (Rosanna Arquette) in a coffee shop he decides to give her a call and meet her for a date in the SOHO district in New York city in the middle of the night. Before you know it, Paul has gotten himself involved in a series of events involving unfortunate deaths, hippy burglars (Cheech and Chong), Kinky (or at least Kiki) artists, mobs lead by a Mr Smoothy truck, and a whole cast of other strange and unusual people.

In a story that loops in on itself in many strange and unusually twists, you get to watch as Paul slowly descends into the increasing maddening world of New Yorks SOHO subculture in the 1980â??s when all he really wants is to be able to get home.

Made at a time when Scorcese was mad at the world for canceling his â??Last Temptation of Christâ?? project, and fueled by this bitterness, After Hours is one of the best dark comedies I have seen in a long time.
