Review of After Earth (2013) by James C — 21 Apr 2014
Poorly written and very poorly acted. Hint to director: Deadpan affect is not entertaining. What you have with the character Will Smith plays, is a Mr. Spock on Quaaludes. And regarding the storyline: a son who is supposedly so brilliant in school, who is totally incapable of hearing or following instructions in a dire emergency.
..well, let's just say unrealistic comes to mind. The kid would never have completed kindergarten. Losers exist, but losers don't rise to the level of achievement this kid was supposed to have reached.
Fantasy movies should have a spark of believability. I was completely disappointed with what should have been a great movie. An excellent director, a top star, sci-fi in space. This movie is proof that you can have all the best ingredients and still create a flop.
