Review of After Earth (2013) by Karen B — 11 May 2015
After Earth is a disappointing and dull tale. Shyamalan has proved to is that he can craft compelling stories, but really misses the mark here. There are really only two characters here, and they are both extremely uninteresting.
The script is laughable, and I can't even believe such a good director would allow such horrible lines to be spoken. The story is extremely generic, and there are so many plot holes in the story that it's really becomes annoying.
Logic has been thrown out the window, and we're left with a story of Jaden Smith (who can't act) try to reach a beacon to help him and his dad (played by Will Smith, who is made completely dull) escape Earth, which has become uninhabitable.
A couple of ok action sequences and pretty good effects can't save this movie bland, ridiculous, and forgettable movie. After Earth gets 1/5 stars (D).
