Review of Affliction (1996) by Ian L — 01 Mar 2012
Seriously depressing. Still, well worth watching. Overall, it's a perfect example of the late-90s, early-00s drama for the over-40 crowd. Schrader's adaptation of the novel is keen, and his direction is never too much.
On a technical level, it hits all the right notes. Emotionally too, I suppose. It just doesn't offer much hope of anything.
