Review of Ae Fond Kiss... (2004) by Codie E — 04 May 2008
An extremely underrated film. I can't think of many modern romance films that tackle the subject so realistically and maturely. And as in life there are issues outside of the central pairing, primarily religion in this case, and these are dealt with so intelligently and honestly.
Laverty's script, Morris' editing, Ackroyd's photography and Martin Johnson's production design (sadly his last film) are second to none but the truest spark in this film is Eva Birthistle, who gives such a soulful and weighted performance.
