Review of Adventureland (2009) by Tom G — 18 Oct 2014
Adventureland is a story about relationships and growing up. it is about letting go of childhood and moving on. As such it could be a metaphor for all stages in life. it is a elatively good enjoyable movie.
However, there is a strong ugly stain of elitism throughout the movie. The main characters are Ivy league types and the movies spares nothing in showing their intellectual superiority over the other characters in the movie. Because these people study the work of great geniuses, they seem to feel that they enjoy the same capabilities of these geniuses They are about to enter graduate schools to write their papers and get their degrees and will be as forgotten as everybody else after they die The movie would be improved if these characters had insight into their own limitations. They will die forgotten just like everyone else. They are no better than everyone else.
