Review of Adulthood (2008) by Jim H — 22 Jun 2008
I saw a hard of hearing subtitled performance by mistake, but found it useful at times to help work out what people were saying. Compliments Kidulthood very well, and is probably a better film overall, though it seems a bit forced that we're now expected to forgive Sam all his bad behaviour in the first film & accept him as the 'hero' of this film.
This has the unfortunate side effect of making the character of Alisha seem like a bit of a cow in this one (because she is pretty horrid (understandably) to Sam) which is a bit of a shame as she was the only whiter than white character in the first film.
Well worth seeing though & certainly opened my eyes as to how hard it must be to be a kid growing up in London nowadays. Noel Clarke rules and Scarlett Alice Johnson in particular was very good.
