Review of Adulthood (2008) by Adrian A — 03 Jan 2009
A beautifully written and performed sequel to Kidulthood, not only written by Noel Clarke but this time Directed by him too.
Noel plays Sam who, in the first movie was the undisputed villain of the piece, but this time the tables are turned; he is a reformed character and those we loved in the first outing are now people to be feared.
The message is so much clearer in this picture; if you carry weapons and inflict harm on others, there is a severe price to pay. This is brilliant stuff and every tearaway teen who has aspirations to be king or queen of the streets should be made to sit through it.
Noel Clarke is such a nice guy, and what I found really touching was his personal tribute to everyone who helped his career happen in the credits at the end of the film. Everyone from Rikki Beadle-Blair who gave him his first break in television to Russell T. Davis and the fans of Doctor Who and Torchwood are mentioned. This guy hasn't one pretentious bone in his body despite having so much talent. Nice one Noel. Long may you reign.
