Review of Adoration (2013) by Katiuska S — 07 Sep 2013
When you make a movie based on a book from a Nobel Prize winner and cast two of the hottest actresses over 40, it's almost impossible to make a terrible movie. It is however very possible to make a mediocre one.
Adore is just mediocre and lackluster. The premise is a Freudian mess with moms doings their friends' sons, breaking up families and ultimately not giving a shit. It makes you uncomfortable beginning to end and while there are some opportunities to be sexy, it's mostly creepy.
While not a total debacle, Adore just goes on too long and meanders with no purpose. It's certainly a movie that could have used a bit of editing and shortened by a solid 20 minutes.
The setting of the movie is surreal and everyone seems to be tanned, fit and certifiably insane, in a weird normal way. This is perhaps something that takes away from the movie since it's too sexed up with bikinis and chiseled bodies. If this had been Seattle with sippy cups and fleece, it would have been remarkable.
Certainly a good movie although far short of what I expected. Also there was no nudity which is preposterous.
