Review of Adaptation. (2002) by Roy C — 06 Nov 2010
A screenwriter (Charlie Kaufman) made a movie about screenwriters. It is full of irony, metaphor, and self deprecating humor. I will say this - Kaufman is extremely good at writing male characters that have issues or that are neurotic. He also did Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. This is Nicolas Cage's best work hands down. I love how the movie wants to let you into the secret place that most people never want you to see...their innermost thoughts and feelings.
Roger Ebert can say it better than me,.
"To watch the film is to be actively involved in the challenge of its creation. "Adaptation" is some kind of a filmmaking miracle, a film that is at one and the same time (a) the story of a movie being made, (b) the story of orchid thievery and criminal conspiracies, and (c) a deceptive combination of fiction and real life.".
