Review of Adaptation. (2002) by Shawn E — 20 May 2012
Charlie Kaufman is one of the greatest writers of our time. He's fantastic. He is the master of his craft and I love him. Everything about this movie is just wonderful. The direction from Spike Jonze is spot on...once again he brings a Kaufman script to the screen in all the glory it deserves.
The performances are just beautiful. Meryl Streep is vulnerable and lovely and Chris Cooper is genius as usual. However, there is one performance here that will really blow you away, and that is the performance of Nicolas Cage as Charlie Kaufman and his twin brother Donald Kaufman. This is one of the finest performances I have ever seen. This is coming from a guy who decided, after seeing Ghost Rider, that Nicolas Cage couldn't possibly be a good actor or redeem himself after that mess of a movie. I was wrong and I fully admit it. Nicolas Cage is a fantastic actor and I will support him against anyone who thinks otherwise.
All that said...the movie is genius...check it out whenever you can. It's one of the best.
