Review of Adaptation. (2002) by Jon P — 15 Jun 2014
Nicolas Cage makes Hollywood hairdo history in this spellbinding study of screenwriting process and creative psychology. Spike Jonze's tender direction helps blur the boundaries between fiction and reality, emotion and psychosis, but it's Charlie Kaufman's semi-autobiographical screenplay that distorts the film into a meta-masterwork of colossal complexity.
Cerebral, intelligent filmmaking at its very finest. Kaufman is too clever for his own good.
