Review of Adam's Rib (1949) by Steve W — 30 Apr 2010
A madcap battle of the sexes. Adam and Amanda are lawyers who find themselves on the other ends of a courtroom. It also effects their home life as disagreement arise from the case they are working on.
The movie is not laugh out loud funny until after the final verdict with the main plot. It does get much better at the end when the emotional spats finally get bigger and badder and there are some amazing scenes involving a gun and fisticuffs.
Hepburn and Tracy are really over the top but perform very well. You buy them as a married couple and their marriage unravels before they have to settle out their perspectives on gender equality.
Highly enjoyable romantic comedy from great star power. Its aged well and is a classic, in my own humble opinion.
