Review of Adam's Rib (1949) by Bill K — 28 Dec 2011
After god created the first human, Adam, he took one of Adam's ribs and turned it into a human female named eve. And that's where the title of George Cukor comedy comes from in case you haven't read the bible. It's a pretty funny, but most important an intelligent comedy that actually takes up the societies differences between men and women. And both Tracy and Hepburn I both balanced and is able to don't steel the limelight from each other. Both strong performances and most important a superb chemistry.
The story is set in New York where Doris Attinger (Judy Holliday), who one day decides to follow her husband to the lady he is having an affair with. When she finds them both she pull up a gun and shoots him, but he's survive and a the fight is continued in court. The case is taken by two lawyers who are both man and wife, Adam (Spencer Tracy) and Amanda Bonner (Katharine Hepburn) both defending each of the offended in this case, where they chose the person of the same sex. Adam is very against Amanda taking the case, because he don't want to let this come between them, while Amanda is holding on to what she think is right.
Adam's Rib is just one of those wonderful and smart screwball comedies with the perfect duo, Hepburn and Tracy. Hepburn shows that she really is a good role model for women everywhere: And I guess that most women really rots for her. While us men rotting for Tracy, just because of the fact that he's a man, and that we feel pity every times his masculinity is set on trial. A wonderful comedy classic. Thumbs up.
