Review of Adam's Rib (1949) by Madison N — 13 Nov 2012
The difference between 10 years in prison and freedom is not a silly thing.
A wife depressed that her husband is cheating on her follows him to a hotel room and accidentally shoots a gun at his mistress. An elder married couple, both of which are lawyers, take opposite sides on the case and represent the marital parties. They quickly discover that their views on sex and the law may challenge their marriage as well as the case.
"You got me so convinced I might go out and become a woman.".
"He wouldn't have far to go.".
George Cukor, director of My Fair Lady, A Star is Born, The Philadelphia Story, Wild is the Wind, Let's Make Love, and Born Yesterday, delivers Adam's Rib. The storyline for this picture is very interesting and contains a great script and entertaining scenes. The cast delivers awesome performances and includes Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn, Judy Holliday, Tom Ewell, David Wayne, and Jean Hagen.
"When did you feel like you were losing your husband's affection?".
"When he started batting me around.".
I continue to DVR Spencer Tracy pictures off Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and was especially excited about this gem since it starred Katherine Hepburn as well. I did thoroughly enjoy this picture and the way Tracy and Hepburn played off each other. The overall picture was average but the acting was amazing. I strongly recommend seeing this picture.
"Did he ever offer you an answer?".
"Certainly. He said mind your own business.".
Grade: B+.
